Food Pantry App
Helping my community combat food insecurity. A website that keeps our local community aware of food resources available to them.
Role: Lead UX Designer
Project Overview
The Problem
Our local community needs a resource for the growing number of people faced with food insecurity.
The Goal
To create a site that helps people find the food they need in order to feed themselves and their family
User Research
I conducted two studies throughout this project. My initial research helped me understand how best to create a resource that is immediately available to users. And a usability study helped me make improvements on the site once it was designed.
Pain Points
No Waiting In Line
Movie goers don’t want to wait in long lines at the theater
Movie Selection
Users need ample information to help them choose a movie
Sharing With Others
Movie goers make plans with others and need the ability to easily share informationInfluencer startup interaction design. Paradigm shift research & development partner network iteration lean.
Persona: Stacey
Problem Statement
Stacey is a single mother who needs help finding food resources in her community because she often doesn’t have enough food to feed herself and her son.
User journey map
Mapping out the process gave me insight in how best to provide resources for Stacey, leading me to focus on creating an opportunity for her to make requests from the food pantry in advance to her visit
Digital Wireframes
I wanted the layout to be very simple without lots of pages. I created a simple homepage that introduces the purpose of the site.
Using the completed set of digital wireframes, I created a low-fidelity prototype. The primary user flow I connected was selecting a movie, choosing seats, and ordering food, so the prototype could be used in a usability study.
Usability Study Findings
I conducted one usability study. Findings from the study helped guide the designs from wireframes to a high-fidelity prototype and revealed what aspects of the mockups needed refining.
Users wanted an option for getting directly to the pantry information when first landing on the website
Users would like notifications of items available at the pantry
User would like to know what other resources are available
Updated Mockups
For the final high-fidelity prototype, I added an easy way to get from the homepage to the pantry information page and made navigation easier.
Takeaway
Impact
This website will help people in my community to better feed themselves as the cost of food continues to increase. Providing users with resources will have a positive impact on their entire family
Next Steps
We will partner with other food scarcity organizations in our community to provide users with more resources
We will create notifications for items available with pantry dates and times to keep users informed
Conduct more user research to determine any new areas of need.
